Humane Society of Polk County gets new ePolk Web site

The Humane Society of Polk County (HSPC) has unveiled a new web site. Designed and hosted by ePolk, the web site now serves as a virtual extension of the non-profit agency allowing several things to be accomplished without visiting the shelter. An integrated Content Management System (CMS) allows Humane Society staff to better control and update the content without the need for custom software. Special features now available include a free interactive Lost and Found section, where photos and descriptions of pets can be uploaded. Another self-service feature is called Re-Home Your Pet, a useful tool for those who need to find a new home for pets they are unable to keep. Successful re-homing of a pet eliminates the often painful step of surrendering it to the shelter. Important telephone numbers for reporting suspected animal abuse are also listed on the site.
According to HSPC's Executive Director Lisa Baker, the new site makes it easier to match pets with adoptive families and keep the public informed about upcoming events. Baker also notes, "The social media link is nice to have,” referring to the direct link to HSPC's Facebook page and YouTube account from the site. The Humane Society of Polk County is the first "No Kill" shelter in Polk County and is funded solely by public donations. ePolk donated a significant portion of their service in this project. Mike Kingham, president of ePolk said, "All of us at ePolk are animal lovers. We were happy to help with such an important cause for our community."
